Cookies & privacy

What I store and what I don't.

Short, honest page. This site is artisanal — no third-party tracker, no commercial analytics, no advertising pixel. But a few technical cookies are useful to make your visit pleasant. Here's what they are and why.

— This isn't lawyer-speak. It's what I'd want to read in your shoes.

01

Technical cookies this site uses

Three things are stored in your browser, never sent to a third-party server:

  • theme — your light/dark mode choice, if you click the theme button. Without this, you'd have to re-click every visit. Stored value: light or dark. Duration: indefinite, until you clear your cache.
  • lang — your FR/EN preference if you switch language. Used to return you to the correct language version on later navigation. Duration: indefinite.
  • Chess game state (if you've played) — your current game, so you can pick it up where you left off. Duration: cleared on next "New game".

All these are localStorage entries — stored locally in your browser, never sent to a server. You can erase them anytime via your browser settings.

02

What I don't use

  • No Google Analytics. No behaviour tracking, no visit statistics, no visitor profiling. I don't need to know how many pages you read or where you came from.
  • No Facebook, Meta, LinkedIn or TikTok pixel. No retargeting. You won't see ads about me after your visit.
  • No third-party cookies. No external script drops a cookie on your browser via this site.
  • No fingerprinting. I don't collect your IP, your screen resolution, your OS, or anything that would let me uniquely identify you.
  • No third-party auth service (Google login, Facebook login, etc.) — this site has no user accounts at all.
03

The contact form

When you write to me via the form, your message goes straight to my inbox. It's not stored anywhere else. I read it, I reply, and I keep it in my inbox as long as our exchange has a point — usually a few months. I don't sell it, I don't share it, I don't use it to silently prospect you.

If you want me to erase your message after our exchange, just say so. I do it without asking why.

04

External technical resources

A few third-party services load on this site for technical reasons:

  • Google Fonts — to display the Poppins, Instrument Serif and JetBrains Mono fonts. Google may see your IP when your browser loads these files. No cookie is dropped by this service.
  • OpenStreetMap (on the Travel page, for the interactive map) — provides map tiles. Your IP may be visible to OpenStreetMap when the map loads. No cookie is dropped.
  • OVH — the French host serving these pages. Like any web host, OVH keeps basic access logs (IP, date, page requested) for network security and French law compliance. I don't have access to these logs.
05

Your rights

Under European GDPR and French data protection law, you can at any time:

  • ask if I hold any information on you (answer: only what you've written to me, if you've written);
  • ask me to delete it (I do so immediately);
  • ask for a copy of our exchange (answer: it's in your inbox too, usually);
  • file a complaint with the CNIL (French data protection authority) if you feel your rights have been disregarded.

For any question, write to Email — same address as everything else.

A question, a doubt?

Write to me. It's simpler. I reply fast.
